Witch Light

A silver orb of fiery passion

dancing through the darkness.

Bewitching, throbbing energy

tantalising, teasing.

A moment’s kiss,

a fantasy fulfilled,

whispering light and ecstasy

into my skin.

An exploding starburst

overwhelming the mind,

the body, the soul.

Brief, the taste

of the blazing universe.

Touch nirvana’s supernova

then blast into silence

Searing aftershocks.

A holocaust memory

burnt into retina,

scorched into skin,

forever embedded.

The witch light moves on,

watched with wonder-filled

yet wary eyes,

with a wounded soul,

and yet,

with a satisfied smile.

Inspiration

This poem came from a dream that lingered long after I woke. The setting belonged entirely to classic sword and sorcery fantasy; an ancient forest, impossible light, and an overwhelming sense that something extraordinary was both beautiful and dangerous, yet somehow inherently sensual.
