Eiffel Tower

A relaxed painting session that led to an unexpected French twist.

Acrylic Painting by Catherine Knee. Eiffel Tower in golden brown tones set against a bright blue sky with scattered clouds, surrounded by green trees and grassy foreground.

I found this painting while rummaging for a spare canvas. I thought I had lost it, to be honest, or maybe that I had thrown it away being pissy about it not being good… you know how it goes with creatives! I painted it a few years ago and honestly can’t remember much about how it started.

If I recall correctly, I just wanted to see if I could paint a nice bright sky. Well, it certainly is bright! The clouds didn’t turn out quite how I hoped but I went with it anyway. I made a mental note to try and learn how to do clouds, which is still on my to-do list years later. Erm,, how surprising…?! Ahem, welll, anyway… Next I added some green for the ground and thought it needed something big as a subject. Mostly to try and reduce how bright it all was. Yeah, see how well that worked out for me! Hah! I didn’t feel like painting another tree, so I asked myself what else is big but won’t block out the sky. The Eiffel Tower came to mind. Why? God only knows!

I started putting down some lines and sort of got a weird, oddly shaped, Eiffel Tower impression. Oh well., It looked odd so I then added shrubbery around the base. I know, I know, it isn’t the Eiffel Tower’s backside, but if it was I would have had to spend hours when I was just having a spalsh and a giggle, and beside, I would have had to paint Paris too and I wasn’t doing that! I was painting for relaxation more than anything else.

Fun fact: shortly after I did this painting, I did a photoshoot with a studio running a French Artist theme. The model was pretending to paint in the shoot, and I took this along and they pretended it was their masterpiece. Poor model forever doomed for people to think they painted this… er… masterpiece!

I promised to share my art journey, so even though this isn’t new I’m sharing it now. If I find any more old paintings, I’ll share those too.

Inspiration
I started painting without any plan and simply added elements as the whim took me.

This acrylic painting by Catherine Knee shows the Eiffel Tower in golden brown tones with a bright blue sky, green trees, and grassy foreground.
