Morning Star
The horizon holds its breath, and one voice lingers in the stillness.

Morning Star
Light creeps over the horizon,
the stars have faded away,
I cannot see them.
I peer over my shoulder
looking for the warm velvet night.
It is not there.
I peer over the horizon,
looking for the sunshine.
I cannot see it.
I peer into the distance,
there is no warm golden sunlight.
It is not there.
And I,
the Morning Star,
am trapped in a netherworld
of nothingness,
belonging neither to day, nor to night.
I shine out with bravado,
but I,
I am alone.
Inspiration
This poem was written a long time ago when I was single and felt the weight of it deeply. In my youth, loneliness was a heavy companion, and Morning Star came out of that space. It reflects what it feels like to belong neither here nor there, suspended between day and night, caught in solitude yet still trying to shine.
Morning Star by Catherine Knee captures solitude in the fragile stillness between night and day.
